FOR BETTY BOWERS, THE HARDEST PART OF GETTING THROUGH THE NEW KECHI TERMINAL WAS LEAVING THE HUGS AND KISSES OF HER GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER, SAILOR AND MIRIAM AND HER GRANDDAUGHTER, FAITH. ONCE BETTY SAID HER FINAL GOODBYES, WE WATCHED HER ZIP THROUGH SECURITY TO GET TO A FLIGHT HEADED TO PHENIX. I THINK IT’S WONDERFUL. IT SEEMED TO BE VERY EASY, SIMPLE TO GET THROUGH AND VERY EASY TO FIND WHERE YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO GO. UNLIKE THE NOW CLOSED TERMINALS, THE NEW ONE HAS SECURITY IN ONE PLACE, WITH UP TO SIX SCANNING LINES. IF NECESSARY. THERE ARE LINES FOR MOST PASSENGERS PRE-APPROVED TSA PASSENGERS, AND ALSO FOR CLEAR MEMBERS WHO CAN GO THROUGH SECURITY WITH A SCAN OF THEIR EYES. A RETINA IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM LIKE A FINGERPRINT. IT SCAN YOUR EYES AND THEY TAKE YOU RIGHT TO THE FRONT. YOU SHOW YOUR BOARDING PASS AND THEY TELL YOU TO GO. WE FOUND ALL THE LINES MOVED QUICKLY. OH, IT’S WONDERFUL. IT’S BEAUTIFUL. IT’S AMAZING. SO FAR, EVERYTHING’S BEEN JUST MOVING FASTER. IT’S QUICK. IT’S NICE. PEOPLE ARE NICE. IT’S IN GOOD. NO COMPLAINTS. AND YOU’VE BEEN TO THE OTHER AIRPORT MANY TIMES. HOW DO YOU THINK IT COMPARES? 'Very easy to get through': New Kansas City International Airport features simplified security set-up
The new Kansas City International Airport terminal features a reconfigured security line.Instead of multiple security checkpoints at a handful of gates in multiple terminals, passengers pass through one security area with up to sixteen scanning lines if necessary.For Betty Bowers, the hardest part of getting to her flight to Phoenix was leaving the series of hugs and kisses from her granddaughter and two great-granddaughters.“I think it’s wonderful, it seemed very easy, simple to get through and very easy to find where you’re supposed to go,” Betty said.While everyone passes through the same general security area, there are lines for most passengers, another one for pre-approved TSA passengers and a new feature launched at KCI for members of a company called CLEAR.That company uses a device to scan members’ retinas to expedite the security check-in process.A company news release states CLEAR is expected to create 35 new jobs in the area and have a $1.6 million local economic impact.KCI is the newest of 51 airports for CLEAR which has over 14 million members including Dean Mercer and Chris Estell.“It’s scan your eyes and they take you right to the front, you show your boarding pass and they tell you to go,” Mercer said.“It’s an easier way to access the airport as long as you have everything that you need, they do a background check and things like that. And it just makes it a lot easier and much simpler to where you need to go quickly,” Estell said.
