Carlsbad was a very diverse place which had its pros and its cons. I am from Carlsbad, NM and I think it's a nice small town overall!

I am currently residing in a small town that is predominantly populated by oilfield workers. The community is tight-knit, and opportunities such as scholarships and funding often seem to be based more on personal connections than on individual merit or need. This environment has taught me the importance of community engagement and networking, but it has also highlighted the need for more equitable opportunities. I believe that scholarships should be awarded based on a person's potential, their dedication to their studies, and their commitment to making a positive impact. Despite the challenges, I have strived to stand out through my academic achievements and my involvement in community service. I have consistently maintained a a good GPA while working full time, and I have volunteered at local events and initiatives to give back to my community.

Carlsbad is an oilfield town that runs completely in the need of our oilfields, but with the workers coming from all around that means crime tends to increase when the oil market does.
Also Carlsbad is an incredibly gang affiliated town as there are shootings, drug busts, and turf wars regularly.

Ever since I have lived here I have noticed the town has grown, there are more opportunities, more availability. In Carlsbad everyone knows everyone and its a nice retirement town with some nice people and neighborhoods.

Carlsbad is a nice little town that gets lots of oilfield traffic from the Permian Basin. Not a whole lot of things to do but the town tries to hold events during the summers at the town's "beach" area, it's really the Pecos river not to confuse out of towners

The cost of living is too night. The public servants are terrible, and need to understand the people they serve better.

It’s a nice small community with nice people all around and people can be very helpful when new around town and the students at the school are nice and polite when moving here, there are also things to explore around Carlsbad with family and friends.

More of an oilfield town there is really nothing to do besides a couple of restaurants. No fun activities

I have been to this town several times. The people are rude, the town has zero services. Everything is constantly closed. People can’t work because there is no daycare.

I moved to Carlsbad in 2006 from the Bay Area (Northern California) when I first got here it was definitely a "culture shock" but it was different back then - Now it has traffic (never did before) many places have closed due to Covid and it is not the town it was when I first moved here ! Miss that very much...

We moved here 2 years ago after living in many different places throughout the country and Carlsbad is by far the worst place we have ever lived. Carlsbad is a dirty city without many perks.
The service is in this town is lousy. If you book an appointment with a service tech, they may not even bother to show (or call you to cancel). The drivers run red lights as if they are just a suggestion and race down streets where little kids play in front of their homes.
Speaking of homes, they’re way overpriced. The most dated-looking, ramshackle homes can cost over 250k. Apparently the real estate market assumes everyone who needs to come here is oil-rich (we’re not).
There are very few shopping choices around here. If you want something decent, you have to travel to Roswell an hour north or El Paso. If you want something to do, you also have to drive a ways to find something.
I don’t feels especially safe here, either. Lots of drugs and anger.

It’s all about how much money or land you have. Lots of “Christian” values but unfortunately not the ones I want to be around. Racist, hom*ophobic and mostly very poor.

Carlsbad is really great! It’s like the perfect size between a small town and a large town. There’s lots of things to do and see while you’re here visiting or living. It’s also pretty close to other towns so drives aren’t long if there’s something not in Carlsbad.

This city is overall very diverse. They support small business and are hard workers. I recommend this city if you are looking for work. The oil industry is highly valued here considering it is their main source of income. We do not have many stores. This place has potential for many stores to thrive.

Great weather...that's about it. New Mexico in general is a dirty state...Carlsbad is typical. There is very little Civic pride; homes are not taken care of, people park on their lawns (leaving the driveway empty). Business development is nearly non existent (good ol' boy cronyism). People are nice enough yet still hard to feel welcome.

Carlsbad is a dying town on the verge of collapse, ridden with inadequate public services, drug dealers, and corrupt government. There is nothing here, and when the so-called 'oil boom' crashes and burns, this town will /be/ nothing. It doesn't even have the Carlsbad Caverns, which is actually located in White City. The city is at risk due to fracking and potash mining, the air quality is terrible, there's a near-constant drought, its 20 miles away from WIPP, the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant and downwind from the Trinity site. Carlsbad has a crime rate of 83%, higher than any other city in the state. This town is a waste of space that's just waiting to become a ghost town.

What u Luke most about Carlsbad would have to be that it is a small town and everyone knows each other. A lot of families are known to help out in the community. Schools are also involved with the community inviting everyone to join, something they do free burgers or t-shirts. When there is a holiday everyone gets together at the beach and celebrate all together. There are always local activities for kids and adults that everyone enjoys. Live music, outside movies and more. Living in a small town has its benefits, everyone knows each other which makes it better when you need help. Carlsbad is a small town but sure is a good place to live at.

awesome scenery there is a lot of hidden beautiful places to go and their cavern is 700 ft deep down the cave. if you are stress and a nature lover your stress will go away and you will love it. I think no changes needed if you love the place.

Carlsbad is a small town, and often seen as a safe town. Recently, due to overpopulation, there has been more traffic, higher prices of rent, and more schools have been built. I believe that it is a safe town to raise any family here. Everyone is friendly, and everyone knows each other.
