There's a new Disney Junior series coming out next year called Alice's Wonderland Bakery.

"Slated to debut in 2022, the series centers on Alice, the great-granddaughter of the original heroine and a budding young baker at the enchanted Wonderland Bakery, where treats bring a new generation of characters together."

The showrunner is Chelsea Beyl, story editor for Doc McStuffins and Vampirina. Frank Montagna is co-executive producer while Nathan Chew is the supervising director. The series is produced by Disney Television Animation.

Kind of surprised it took them this long to concoct a spinoff of the Disney Alice in Wonderland...

I wonder if Kathryn Beaumont could voice a character (assuming she's still acting).

I found this tweet from Craig Gerber (who's not involved with the series) where he talks about some of the people involved in the series. A few of the storyboard artists from Elena Of Avalor will be involved in this series, such as Arielle Yette, Steve Umbeley, Scotland D. Barnes, and James Little, at least based on what he said. Some I can't recognize, but I'm sure it will be made clear in the future.

Here are some early character designs from Justin Rodrigues and Luigi Lucarelli.

This is cute, but I'm starting to shy away of Disney Junior.

By looking at Alice's final character design, I'd say she looks ready for a tennis match.

I wonder if any of Wonderland's weirdness will make its way into the show, or if it'll just be a straightforward baking show with Alice characters.

Geez! This is definitely not the kind of series I would make to continue the Disney's version of "Alice in Wonderland".

Why did they make her the great granddaughter of the original, instead of having her be the original Alice?

Let me hazard an admittedly uneducated guess: Perhaps they wanted to keep the continuity of the movie and it's various anachronisms, so it made sense to set it in the present day with a new Alice. Perhaps kids won't easily relate to a kids show set in the older era the movie was set in.

I thought Wonderland was Alice's dream. This seems more "base" on Alice in Wonderland than a proper "spinoff". Also, I hate being that guy, but network children's show character designs are really getting stale, imo. Not that the shows are bad, it's just that they all look like toys in an animated toy commercial.

This just sounds like an odd choice. Not just having a series based on Alice in Wonderland, but that Alice's great-grand daughter is a baker. It doesn't sound bad and her design is cute, but it just sounds like a weird premise.

Personally, I see how they got here from there. The producers probably wanted to do a cartoon based on baking for little kids, just based on the popularity of those shows. And they tried to figure out which Disney property would lend itself to that. Outside of Minnie Mouse (which has been done to death) I think Alice In Wonderland is the next best choice. Wonderland very much strikes me as a world of confections and cakes, and I can picture the things the characters bake here to be very colorful and eye-popping, and visually pleasing to toddlers. It sounds like a good fit to me.

So does Warner own the Wizard of Oz, do they own the rights to it, or do they lease it and they happen to be the ones to want to keep making media off of it. Is is the same with Disney and Alice in Wonderland?

I would love to see an episode in which (since this is not Alice, but her dissident, I don't see a point in that, but what ever) this show's Alice, and Dorothy Gale's great - grand daughter meet and became friends.

Wonderland and Oz became this shared universe would be awesome. Maybe we have another Who Framed Roger Rabbit? in our life time, and we could get past the Disney / Warner fence.

If I recall correctly, both properties are in the public domain. Warner Bros tries to pretend it owns OZ by watching other Oz based media with extreme scrutiny. They then sic their lawyers on the smallest detail that seems reminiscent of their movie. They 100% own the movie, which happens to be the most popular depiction of the Wizard of Oz. So if they find any aspect that could arguably be from the movie and not the books they will attack the IP. I'm not sure if Disney is the same with Alice in Wonderland, but they surely don't own the original work of fiction.

In short, any Disney series based on Alice could have Dorothy, and any Warner show based on Dorothy could show Alice. Both companies would have to be pretty careful though.

Ugh, yeah, not liking that design, for reasons most wouldn't understand, but that's just me.

As for the premise, @Light Lucario look at that latest Sabrina animated series. Sounds similar.

According to their website, Icon Studios in Vancouver will be the animation studio for Alice's Wonderland Bakery. They've done plenty of animation work for Disney Junior, working on Goldie And Bear (with Titmouse), Elena Of Avalor, TOTS (also with Titmouse), and The Rocketeer (with Wild Canary). This will also be the third show they made for Disney Television Animation, the first two being Elena Of Avalor and Monsters At Work.

I thought Steve Umbleby would be a storyboard artist. As it turns out, he's a director. He's been a storyboard artist on projects like Milo Murphy's Law, Elena Of Avalor, Phineas And Ferb The Movie: Candace Against The Universe, Mickey Mouse Mixed Up Adventures, and Monsters At Work.
